PRE-STRESSED CONCRETE STRANDS
What is pre-stress, where is it used?

Pre-stressing is giving artificial permanent stresses before or during the application of external weight load to a structure. To pre-stress a concrete, custom-engineered wires and strands in various types, sizes and strengths are used.

Pre-stressed concrete steel elements are produced from high carbon and vanadium alloyed special wire rods, by removing the stress after a significant load and regular heat treatment.

ÖnIn pre-stressed concrete structures, initially applied pre-stressing is decreasing in time, due to the expansion and contraction of concrete and the relaxation of pre-stressing steels. Therefore, the feature of the steel -defined as steel relaxation under constant length or loss of stress- is one of the important parameters that is taken into consideration in designing of prestressed concrete structures.

Advantages of the products with lower relaxation:

  • Higher yield and tensile strength,
  • Superior durability against fatigue and corrosion,
  • Consistent load and elongation relation,
  • Superior straightening feature.

7 wire PC strands that are used in the areas such as bridge girder production, prefabricated construction elements, ground and mine anchorages, nuclear power stations, silo constructions, housing constructions are produced according to the ASTM, BS, EN, TSE and JIS standards.

Primary advantages of using PC Strand:

  • High tensile strength.
  • Major prestressing capability in small sections.
  • Less need for anchorage and application labour.
